Hair Analysis Benefits

Hair analysis has many benefits

Clean hair is ideal for analyzing as it  can be cut easily and painlessly and then be sent to the lab without special handling requirements.   Hair analysis reveals a unique view inside your body at your cellular activity, which cannot be seen through most other tests.  A major benefit of hair analysis is that it provides a blueprint of the biochemistry occurring during a specific period of hair growth and development.  Take lead for example, it may no longer be detected in your blood after a month or so.  Why?  Because lead is too harmful to allow it to stay in your blood, so your body will be hide it away in the bone marrow.  But the hair analysis can continue to show that exposure until you cut your hair enough times to cut away all of the section that showed the exposure.   Below are some more reasons why hair analysis is beneficial.

Hair Analysis: Why Beneficial:

  • Nutrient loss from the body can become so advanced that severe health conditions can develop without any appreciable changes noted in those same nutrient levels in a blood test.  Why?  Because the body will try to keep the blood levels normal for as long as it can.  Once the blood begins to show the condition, it means that the body is no longer able to fully compensate for the problem.

  • Symptoms of elemental deficiency can be present long before low levels can be detected in the blood.

  • Hair is used as one of the tissues of choice by the Environmental Protection Agency in determining toxic metal exposure. A 1980 report from the E.P.A. stated that human hair can be effectively used for biological monitoring of the highest priority toxic metals. This report confirmed the findings of other studies in the U.S. and abroad, which concluded that human hair may be a more appropriate tissue than blood or urine for studying community exposure to some trace elements Since hair analysis can indicate toxic substances that are stored in the body.

Hair Analysis Example:

Approximately 30 to 40 days after exposure to a large amount of lead, elevated blood levels may be undetectable. This is due to the body removing the lead from the blood and depositing the metal into such tissues as the liver, bones, teeth and hair as a protective measure.  Once the lead is removed from the blood, typically, it will not show up in blood or urine test.  However, it will still show up in a properly performed hair analysis.  Note the small amount of lead (Pb) in the pink area of the hair analysis report below.

To do this, you must wash your hair and wrap your head with something clean so the air outside your home will not get into your hair and contaminate it.  Or, you may make arrangements to come early for your appointment to wash your hair at our center where we already have the shampoo and clean towels.  We will collect the hair for you and forward it to our lisenced laboratory, Trace ElementsTrace Elements normally gets the results back to us within a week or two.  We create a report that gives you the symptoms and sources associated with your results.  Then we sit down with you to go over the report and help you recognize any changes you can make to improve your situation.
